In response to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), China has announced an ambitious national action plan. The strategy, which includes a ten-year investment of over $1.5 billion, aims to reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics by 30% by 2022. Key initiatives include strengthening surveillance and monitoring systems, improving public awareness and education, and promoting the development and adoption of alternative therapies such as phage therapy and antimicrobial peptides. Healthcare facilities will be required to implement strict antibiotic prescribing guidelines, while farmers will face stricter regulations on antibiotic use in livestock production. Collaboration between academic institutions, industry, and government will also be encouraged to accelerate research and development of new antimicrobial agents. China's comprehensive approach to AMR is a significant step forward in the global fight against this critical health issue.
