As the sun began to set over the Avalon Peninsula, Riqui Puig stood alone on the edge of the training field at Dignity Health Sports Park. The LA Galaxy midfielder's thoughts were far from California as he gazed out towards the Pacific Ocean. Just days before, media reports had surfaced stating his desire to return to Europe and rejoin Barcelona, the team he'd left behind in Spain three years ago. Puig's time at the Galaxy had been successful – he'd helped lead the team to an MLS Cup title in 2021. But the allure of La Liga, and the chance to play for his boyhood club once again, was too strong to resist. Puig's agent confirmed negotiations were underway with Barcelona, but the Galaxy remained hopeful they could keep their star player. As Puig turned to leave, he couldn't shake the feeling that his time in Los Angeles was coming to an end. The thought brought a bittersweet mixture of excitement and sadness as he looked back at the field where he'd made so many memories.
